John’s private passion and testing garden is his home in Bedford, New York. Here he experiments with plants and design, and brings all of his expertise to bear. Lawns have been replaced with native grasses and meadow-style plantings, borders reflect a taste for ornamental natives, the rock walls give way to rock gardens, and the organic forms of the plants are juxtaposed against rigid order. Architectural elements include precisely edged paths, hedges, and boxwood.
John’s natural garden has all season interest. Massive bulb plantings dazzle in the spring. Flowering borders take over in summer. Trees, shrubs, and grasses put on a colorful, textural show in the fall. The natural plantings provide food and shelter for all manner of wildlife in the winter, and structural elements maintain order throughout the year.
